One unfortunate thing about being poor is that it deprives an individual of so many privileges that seems to be exclusively reserved for the rich elites in the society.
This is one of those posts where I simply express my displeasure to what the society has somehow seen to be normal. For some strange reason, a lot of people seem to believe that it is okay for them not to try to emancipate themselves from the shackles of poverty.
The psychology of poverty comes with a self-entitlement mentality which is the primary reason why so many people find themselves in the ugly abode of poverty. The poor often believe that the rich owe them a lot.
The only way to become wealthy is to avoid poverty – as if that isn’t obvious enough.
Poverty and wealth
Poverty and wealth are two dimensions of living standards on opposite side. One cannot be poor and wealthy at the same time. The gap between the poor and the wealthy continues to widen geometrically simply because the poor blatantly refuse to let go of the psychology of poverty that the society have so imbedded in them that it will take special circumstance or what many people call a miracle to get rid of.
Poverty keeps attracting poor events while wealth keeps attracting wealthy events.
Poverty and education
Poverty is deprived of quality education. Quality education does not have to be the type that one gains from the four walls of institutions of learning. Quality education can come from any source. Poverty mindset would not let an individual see reason why he or she should get a business coach or paying a stipend to attend seminar of any kind. The poverty mentality makes one to become allergic to education of the mind.
Poverty and health
The poor can hardly afford standard health care. Poverty always has an extra baggage of ill-health. Poor people are not only sick medically but also has financial health issues.
Poverty and politics
The poor has no business getting involved in politics other than casting their votes when it is time for election. The rich have been controlling things politically and will continue to do so as long as the poor remains poor. The psychology of poverty creates this ‘poor little me’ mentality that ensures that the poor don’t even think of trying to get involved in politics. This is often referred to as low self-esteem.
Poverty and power
Wealth and affluence is synonymous with power. This has been this way since the beginning of time. The poor don’t have anything to do with corridors of power. There is no sign of this situation changing anytime soon.
Poverty and progress
Although progress is relative, it is very rare to find meaningful progress in poverty infested environment.
Poverty and spirituality
Poor people appear to be more spiritually inclined. However, when examined closely, one would observe that all that poor people do is to pretend to be spiritual. Take away the poverty in their life and see them show their true colour. Rich people on the other hand don’t usually fake their spiritual affinity – you see a true devoted spiritual people amongst the rich than you will see amongst the poor.
Poverty and marriage
Broken marriages is common amongst the poor people than it is amongst the rich. A lot of factors is at play against a poor family thereby making them more vulnerable to having marital problems than families that are financially stable.
How to create lasting wealth – the classic but effective way
The first that one needs to take in the quest to create wealth is to firstly liberate the mind from the psychology of poverty. The journey to financial independence begins the moment this ugly state of mind – the poverty mentality if taken care of. The next would be to start saving money which will in turn be invested and nurtured to maturity. Get a financial planner or an investment accountant for help. An alternative option is to learn the psychology of managing a small business so that you can start your own business.
