Hey, do not be surprised as I sometimes comment on politics because politics and businesses work hand in hand in any complete political economy. Am sure you will agree with me that a major Conner Stone importance of accounting is to provide information to enable decisions that would aid economic development, hence, this article on the political outlook of Nigeria come February 2023.
Official campaign for who becomes Nigeria’s next president hasn’t started yet, it will start in September of 2022 (roughly 2 months from when this post was published).
The above notwithstanding, the masses (I mean the general populace of Nigeria) are taking it upon themselves to crowd fund and self-motivate some movement in favour of Mr. Peter Obi of Labour Party.
A good number of Twitter spaces have been held by the Peter Obi movement in recent weeks. These twitter spaces attract majorly youths of Nigerian origin from all over the world.
The Nigerian Tribune polled peoples view of who becomes the next Nigeria’s president come 2023 and the result is outstanding with over 82% out of about 58,000 people that voted as at the time this accounting blog post was written. The other three aspirants in the mix had to share a meager 18%
The above poll was before the rather damaging ugly history of one of the presidential candidates in the person of Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged online. The article titled Bola Ahmed Tinubu: From Drug Lord to Presidential Candidate can be read following the hyperlinked texts above. The youths have been reacting to these old facts that were brought to light by David Hundeyin, the founder of West Africa Weekly.
What started as an online movement has since become so strong at the grassroot level that the big shots are starting to tremble in fear. Self-sponsored youths have produced hard copies of David’s investigative article and started distributing them to people on the street.
Interesting times are ahead. As some diehard fans of the other political parties are coming out from their shell to counter some of the allegations that are being leveled against their candidates.
This made me start thinking out loud and asking myself some question as produced below:
- Do we now have a new political factor of production?
- Is this new political factor of production the most important of them all yet to be seen in Nigerian political arena?
- Can this movement be sustained?
- Are the people of Nigeria really tired of being lied to by corrupt politicians?
- What will happen if come February 2023 and Peter Obi did not win?
Will movement of the masses become the most important political factor of production? Only time will tell. I will write more on this after the election. As a Nigerian who currently operate from Nigeria, I sincerely pray that the best candidate emerges from the 2023 general election.
Keep an eye on this space as I will be updating it as event unfolds .See the Twitter poll result
